Government ensures safer use of social media, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of online crime is deeply concerning, with trends showing that traditional crimes are beginning to shift to the cyber realm, including social media, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Reported by Bernama, in his latest Facebook post, he mentioned that this morning they received a briefing on this issue from the Director-General of the National Security Council, Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, and a deputy director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department.

“God willing, we will strive to ensure the best to make the internet, including social media, safer for everyone,” he said.

Earlier, Fahmi was reported to have mentioned the need to explore the existence of new acts related to the detriment of online crime in line with rapid technological advancements.
