BALING: A Form 6 student tragically lost her life in a road accident while heading to school on her motorcycle this morning. The collision occurred involving another motorcyclist and a car on the Baling-Weng-Tanjung Pari trunk road in Kampung Bongor 3.

The incident took place at 7:45 a.m., as the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Baling student, identified as Siti Umairah Alias, was riding her motorcycle when she crashed into another motorcyclist on a Modena Kriss and a motorist driving a Perodua Myvi.

Siti Umairah sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Baling police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat, the accident was likely caused by the sudden change in direction by the motorcyclist, leading to the collision.

“The victim was en route from her home in Kampung Bandar to her school in Baling. The Modenas Kriss rider was traveling in the same direction, while the Perodua Myvi driver was coming from the opposite direction. The victim could not avoid the collision, resulting in a side impact with the Modenas Kriss and a head-on collision with the Perodua Myvi in the opposite lane,” Shamsudin explained in a statement.

He also noted that the other motorcyclist, an Indonesian national, sustained minor injuries and did not possess a motorcycle license. The Perodua Myvi driver was unharmed.

The deceased’s body has been transported to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for a post-mortem examination. The case is under investigation according to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“All vehicles involved have been seized for further inspection. The Indonesian national tested negative for drugs and has been detained,” Shamsudin added.
