Vape vending machine at a KL mall has sparked an internet discussion
PETALING JAYA: The existence of a vape vending machine at a Kuala Lumpur shopping mall has prompted a discussion online among Malaysians.
Boo Su-Lyn, a netizen, posted three images of the vape vending machine on X today, July 10.
“A vape vending machine at a mall in KL.
“No requirement to scan IC for age verification checks before purchase. Just pay with card or e-wallet”, she wrote as the tweet’s caption.
The tweet has had over 184K views as of this writing, and many X users are surprised by how simple it is for anyone with a card or e-wallet to get a vape.
“We have to be among the very few nations on earth that permit unrestricted access to e-cigarettes with uncontrolled nicotine content. Disappointing in a lot of ways, X user commented.
“Imagine from almost getting a total ban in the generational endgame bill to this, openly selling vape,” commented @sinach_z, another user.
The government has been urged by the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) to hasten the gazette of regulations pertaining to vape products and e-cigarettes.
According to its president, Dr. Azizan Abdul Aziz, the vaping business has taken advantage of regulatory inadequacies and there have been serious hazards to public health as a result of the delay.
