The bus driver’s accreditation card is being detailed, the minister said
PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Transport is detailing some regulations regarding the issuance of accreditation cards for bus drivers, said the relevant minister, Anthony Loke.
“In fact, this issue was raised with us a month ago and we have agreed that the issuance of this bus driver card is subject to a number of rules that are being detailed,” he said, Bernama reported.
He said this after a meeting of the National Shipping and Port Council (NPSC) which he chaired.
Previously, the media reported the President of the All Malaysia Bus Operators Association (PMBOA), Datuk Mohamad Ashfar Ali as saying that accreditation cards for bus drivers and operators enable them to be held accountable in the event of a complaint or incident.
He said the accreditation card for drivers will help prevent drivers who do not have a license or are inexperienced driving on the road.
Regarding the integrated operation of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) against sightseeing buses across the country which started last Tuesday, Anthony said that a total of 351 vehicles had been inspected as of yesterday.
He said six drivers were arrested and banned from driving because they were suspected of using prohibited substances after failing a urine test and there were four cases of drivers not having a license.
“We take this number seriously, that there are drivers who not only do not have a license but are involved in drug abuse,” he said.
Meanwhile, when asked about the Auditor General’s Report (LKAN) Series 2 2024 which stated that Mass Flow Transit (MRT) failed to reach the passenger target, he said the weakness was being addressed.
“In terms of the number of passengers and frequency, all those issues are addressed from time to time, not just because of the Auditor General’s Report.
“We have already implemented a key performance indicator (KPI) system for Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana),” he said.
