KUALA LUMPUR: The Feasibility Study of the Trans Borneo Railway Project connecting Sabah and Sarawak with Indonesia and Brunei is currently in the final evaluation phase and is expected to be completed in August 2025.

According to Berita Harian, the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, said the implementation of this study is expected to start next month and take 12 months.

He said through the results of the study, the government could use it to assess the feasibility of a cross-country rail system with Brunei and Indonesia in the Borneo Islands.

He said, the network is expected to be able to improve connectivity and boost logistics activities, especially with the new capital of Indonesia, which is the archipelago in East Kalimantan.

“Along with the planning of the Kalimantan railway network planned by the current Indonesian government, the Trans Borneo railway network will be complementary to enable the movement of goods and passengers throughout the Borneo archipelago,” he said in a written answer in Parliament.

He said this in response to a question from Mohamad Shafizan Kepli (GPS-BATANG LUPAR) who asked the minister to state the status of the Trans Borneo Railway Project Feasibility Study and the extent of the Malaysian Government’s commitment in realizing the development of a cross-country rail system with Brunei and Indonesia in the Borneo Islands.
