Anwar received a courtesy visit from Sheikh Al-Azhar

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy visit from Sheikh Al-Azhar, Professor Dr Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad At-Tayyeb, who was on a four-day special visit to Malaysia at the invitation of the Prime Minister.

Bernama reported that Sheikh Al-Azhar arrived at the Seri Perdana Complex here, which is also the Prime Minister’s official residence, at 6.30pm.

Also participating in the session were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Yesterday, a special plane carrying Sheikh Al-Azhar landed safely at Terminal 1 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 10.42pm.

The recipient of the 2020/1442H International Maal Hijrah Award is also scheduled to attend and give a speech at the MADANI Knowledge Council: “Distinguished Speaker Series” tonight.

Wisma Putra in a statement yesterday, informed that the special visit by Sheikh Al-Azhar, who has the status of Prime Minister based on the Egyptian Constitution, is a historic moment in bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The visit also proved the close relationship and close cooperation between the two countries in an effort to develop progressive and dynamic Muslims.
