SHAH ALAM: The Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) is now in charge of the investigation into the widely circulated photographs that were posted via the Telegram application and purportedly showed damage on Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin’s body.

Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act 1972 is being used as the basis for the investigation, according to Selangor police head Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

He said at a press conference held today at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) that “a police report concerning evidence allegedly connected to the Zayn Rayyan case has been filed, and the investigation is now being handled by Bukit Aman USJT.”

The photos’ distribution was reported to the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) last Sunday.

Hussein continued, saying that his staff looked into the matter after the report was submitted before giving Bukit Aman the case.

He replied that the situation was being looked into when questioned about the potential for insider complicity in the photo distribution.

The investigation files pertaining to the purported murder were previously made public as well.

The autistic child’s body was found in a stream close to his Idaman Damansara Damai Apartment on December 6, 2018, at 10 p.m., one day after he was reported missing.

Ismanira Abdul Manaf and Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, Zayn Rayyan’s parents, entered a not guilty plea at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on June 13 about their alleged physical abuse of their son. – Bernama
