KUALA LUMPUR: For all Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates who receive 10As or higher, the Ministry of Education (MoE) will release more information on their options to pursue matriculation courses.

Prior to making any additional pronouncements connected to the topic, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that she and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir would assess the situation.

Fadhlina further explained that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement on the subject today guarantees education to all citizens, regardless of their race or origin.

After taking part in a programme on facial care and physiotherapy with a group of mothers and women at Taman Puteri Gunung here today, she told reporters, “I would like to thank the Prime Minister for this very important and significant announcement, especially the guarantee for this year’s outstanding SPM students to secure and continue higher education.”

Anwar had already said that, from this year on, all Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates who received 10As or higher regardless of their race or region, would be given the chance to pursue matriculation studies.

The Prime Minister declared that the decision, which was made by the Cabinet on Friday, June 28, at their meeting, will not have an impact on the current Bumiputera student quota.

Fadhlina, meanwhile, expressed optimism that the news would not raise any issues, particularly with regard to the Matriculation quota for Malay students, as it stayed the same and guaranteed equal access to education for everybody. – Bernama
