KPM implemented various approaches to avoid early retirement of teachers

NIBONG TEBAL: The Ministry of Education (KPM) takes various approaches and mechanisms to raise the morale and motivation of teachers to prevent them from continuing to choose to retire early.

According to Bernama, its minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said the Ministry of Education and Culture took the issue seriously but still gave the teachers involved full space to make decisions after the intervention.

“We always make various mechanisms to give them motivation, this includes programs that are psychometric and support as well as management related to promotion.”So from time to time there is indeed that program, but I think those who want to retire early means they choose to retire early for strong reasons such as health problems, not being interested (in pursuing a career) and having a family,” she said.

Also present was Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Sungai Bakap State Legislative Assembly (PRK) Dr Joohari Ariffin who campaigned to entertain visitors at the night market.

Fadhlina said the issue of thousands of teachers choosing to retire early is believed not to affect the country’s education system because it is a ‘come and go’ issue.

He said the filling of teacher vacancies across the country is now at a level of 98 percent through close cooperation with the Education Services Commission (SPP).

“God willing, we have a number of approaches which are the release of teachers from the Teacher Education Institute (IPG), then we have COS (contractual appointment) which we will hire from time to time as needed,” she said.

Earlier Fadhlina in a written answer in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday informed that she is no longer interested in continuing her career and identified the main reason why thousands of teachers chose to retire early over the past three years.

According to her the situation represents 72.36 percent of the 4,300 to 6,300 teachers who chose to retire early for the same period
