KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is developing the KDN Master Plan Regarding National Border Security Control in an effort to strengthen security control at the border.

Berita Harian reported that its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said it would explain the proposed framework of a comprehensive master plan through the development of an integrated strategy and action plan, involving the KDN and other border control agencies.

He said that the implementation of the plan was drawn up based on two strategic focuses, namely strengthening border security control operations and strengthening control capacity at the border.

“The focus of the strategy designed to strengthen border security control will be implemented centrally at the country’s five front borders.

“The country’s five front borders are the north (Kedah, Perlis and Perak); the east (Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang); the south (Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor); Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a written reply in the House People.

He answered a question from Mordi Anak Bimol (PH-Mas Gading) regarding measures to ensure the jurisdiction and cooperation of all border control agencies to combat the smuggling of controlled and prohibited items that are becoming more prevalent at the Sarawak-Indonesia border.

Regarding the National Border Control System (NBCS), Saifuddin Nasution, said the Ministry of Interior is carrying out a Feasibility Study on the Development of the NBCS Control System.

He said the study was done in line with efforts to empower the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for border security control.

“This NBCS development proposal is a strategic move by the Ministry of Defense to strengthen Malaysia’s border security control through the use of the latest technology, in line with the current technological developments in the world.

“The development of this NBCS system will be equipped with the latest surveillance system and AI technology to enable unsupervised operations, intelligent control processes, rapid dissemination of information in real time and continuous round-the-clock surveillance.

“It aims to protect the country’s land and maritime borders for the sake of peace, stability and national sovereignty,” he said.

Commenting further, he said, the use of AI-based technology will enable object verification to be carried out effectively, in addition to avoiding false alarms and helping the security team make decisions to improve the overall efficiency of security control at the border.

“KDN is currently in the implementation of the NBCS Development Feasibility Study under the provision of the Third Rolling Plan, the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“This study was carried out by the Malaysian Institute of Public Safety KDN through the appointment of a team of researchers and experts from public universities with a study period of 14 months, starting September 7, 2023,” he said.
