KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim appreciates the role of Al-Azhar University in disseminating knowledge and strengthening the values and principles of moderation, said former Grand Mufti of Egypt Sheikh Prof Dr Ali Juma’ah.

Sheikh Ali expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Prime Minister for his kind words and positive attitude towards their visit to Malaysia and the role of Al-Azhar University.

“I appreciate these words, which reflect the close bonds of brotherhood, knowledge and spirituality between Egypt and Malaysia, while reaffirming the special place Al-Azhar Al-Sharif holds in the hearts of our Malaysian brothers and sisters,” he said in a social media post today.

Sheikh Ali also prayed for Malaysia and its people to continue enjoying peace, stability and prosperity, and for the country’s leadership to be blessed in its efforts to serve Islam and Muslims.

He expressed hope that the bonds of affection, knowledge and cooperation between the two countries would continue to strengthen in upholding the values of peace, compassion and harmonious coexistence promoted by Islam.

Sheikh Ali is among the prominent Islamic scholars who frequently visit Malaysia and are involved in efforts to strengthen the tradition of Islamic scholarship and promote the values of peace and moderation.

Last month, Sheikh Ali, together with the Vice-Rector of Al-Qarawiyyin University in Morocco, Sheikh Prof Dr Sayyid Idris al-Fasi al-Fihri, participated in the Malaysia Islamic Heritage Festival (FTIM) at Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.

The programme highlighted Al-Hikam al-Ata’iyyah, a renowned work on Islamic spirituality and Sufism written by the prominent seventh-century Hijri scholar Ibn Ata’illah al-Sakandari.
