KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to defer loan repayments for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers earning up to RM2,500 per month.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said more than 400,000 borrowers are expected to benefit from the measure under Budget 2027.

“A minimum repayment of only RM50 will be imposed on borrowers earning between RM2,500 and RM3,000 per month,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

In addition, Anwar said a 10 per cent discount would be given to borrowers who have no outstanding arrears and make regular repayments.

“The government has also agreed to provide tax deductions to employers who repay PTPTN loans on behalf of their employees,” he said.

Anwar explained that the tax deduction incentive would apply to loan repayments made between January 1, 2027, and December 31, 2028.
