14 Male Students Arrested Over Armed Brawl in Tawau
TAWAU: Police have arrested 14 male students to assist in investigations into a fight involving a group of students armed with weapons at the Taman Ambar playground along Jalan Kuhara here on Monday.
Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspects, aged between 12 and 14, were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) yesterday.
“The viral video footage helped police identify the individuals involved and their respective roles in the incident,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Rosdi said police also seized a mobile phone and a black bicycle believed to be connected to the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Rosdi said investigations were ongoing to determine the involvement and role of each detained individual, as well as to obtain the original video footage and record statements from those involved, including witnesses.
“Police are also awaiting the victim’s medical report and are working closely with the school authorities and the Tawau District Education Office in this case,” he said.
Rosdi urged witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to assist investigations by contacting investigating officer Inspector Robiatul Adawiyah Japri at 016-918 9402 or visiting the nearest police station.
“Parents and guardians are advised to monitor their children’s social interactions and behaviour, while students are reminded not to get involved in fights, provoke others or join groups that could lead to criminal activities,” he said.
