Man Killed After Hilux Plunges 100 Metres into Ravine, Found Two Days Later
KOTA BHARU: A man was killed after the Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving is believed to have skidded off the road and plunged about 100 metres into a ravine along Jalan Ladang Pos Pulat in Gua Musang. The vehicle and victim were only found two days after the incident.
Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said police received a report from a member of the public at 4.30pm yesterday regarding the discovery of the vehicle at the bottom of a slope. The victim was found unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was believed to have occurred last Sunday, two days before the vehicle and victim were found.
“Based on information provided by the victim’s wife, his last live location was detected on Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the accident scene.
“On Oct 6, the victim’s colleague went to the last known location to search for him and found the victim’s Toyota Hilux at the bottom of the slope,” he said in a statement today.
Sik said investigations found that the vehicle driven by the victim was believed to have veered off the road and plunged into the ravine while travelling downhill.
There were no witnesses to the incident, resulting in the vehicle going unnoticed by the public until it was discovered by the victim’s colleague.
He said the victim’s body was subsequently recovered from the scene with assistance from personnel of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia before being sent to the Forensic Unit at Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident,” he said.
