KUALA PILAH: The remand of a 16-year-old male student detained to assist in investigations into the death of a Form Two student at a school hostel in Kuala Pilah on Sept 25 has been extended for another seven days.

Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday granted the remand extension from Oct 2 to Oct 8.

“The suspect’s previous seven-day remand period ended today, and police applied before a Magistrate for an extension to allow further investigations to be carried out,” he told Sinar Harian on Thursday.

He also said statements have so far been recorded from 70 individuals, including students, teachers and coaches.

Asked whether any other students had come forward claiming to have been bullied by the suspect, Alzafny said only five students had done so thus far.

The media previously reported that Muhammad Idlan Fareeq, 14, was rushed to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital (HTAN) here after he was found unconscious at his hostel before being pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim is believed to have been assaulted with a rubber hose by two senior students.
