Private Sector Must Observe Public Holiday for Sultan of Selangor’s Silver Jubilee Celebration
SHAH ALAM: The special holiday in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the reign of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, on Oct 25 is an optional public holiday and must be observed by private-sector employers in Selangor as a paid public holiday.
The Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia said in a statement that employers who designate Sunday as a rest day must provide a replacement public holiday on the following day, Oct 26, as stipulated under Section 60D(1) of the Employment Act 1955.
“Alternatively, employers may, with the consent of their employees, substitute the paid public holiday with another day, as provided under Section 60D(1A) of the Employment Act 1955,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the special holiday was declared in accordance with Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 [Act 369], which allows a state government to declare any day as a public holiday for the state concerned.
On Sept 11, the Selangor State Government announced Oct 26 as a replacement public holiday throughout the state in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the reign of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the replacement holiday was declared because the main celebration and public holiday on Oct 25 falls on a Sunday.
