PUTRAJAYA: A special by-election meeting (PRK) of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) N43 Nenggiri, Kelantan will be held next Friday to discuss the implementation of the election.

According to Sinar Harian, the Secretary of the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR), Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak informed that this was after he received an official notification from the Speaker of the Kelantan State Assembly, Datuk Seri Amar Abdullah regarding the unexpected vacancy of the seat following the disappearance of the incumbent, Mohd Azizi Abu Naim. Bersatu membership on June 13.

“As provided under Clause (3) Article 31A of the Constitution of the Government of Kelantan, the contingency vacancy must be filled within 60 days from the date the EC receives the notification,” he said.

He said, a press conference will be held as soon as the meeting is over.

Mohd Azizi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Gua Musang, is among the six Bersatu Members of Parliament and Assemblymen who have been stripped of their membership for declaring their support for the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Mohd Azizi contested on a Pas ticket and won the Gua Musang Parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election in November 2022, while the Nenggiri state assembly seat was won by him in the State Election in August 2023.

However, his position and five others as Members of Parliament have not been resolved until the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Johari Abdul makes a decision about it.

Other MPs who support Anwar are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang); Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan); Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang); Zahari Kechik (Jeli) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar).

All of them failed to respond to the written instructions of the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council to pledge their allegiance to the party.
