Melaka State Election: PDRM Ready, 3,150 Personnel to Be Deployed

MELAKA: Police have been preparing for the Melaka State Election for the past three months, with 3,150 personnel identified for deployment throughout the election process.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said of the total, 1,500 personnel would be brought in from outside Melaka to ensure operations throughout the state election run smoothly.

“Although the Melaka State Legislative Assembly was officially announced to be dissolved effective tomorrow (today), the police had already made preparations well in advance.

“The early preparations included simulations and training exercises to familiarise personnel with their duties and the situations they may encounter throughout the election process,” he said after a gathering between retired police personnel and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at Seri Bendahara, Ayer Keroh, here last night.

Dzulkhairi said Melaka police had also drawn on the experience of other states that had previously conducted elections to ensure the force was fully prepared for the state election.

He said Melaka police were also working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to monitor social media content throughout the election period.

“Today (yesterday), we held discussions with MCMC on matters involving online activities, particularly on social media and related platforms.

“MCMC will assist us in monitoring content and posts uploaded to Facebook and other social media platforms,” he said.

He also reminded the public not to use social media to spread false or defamatory content, particularly involving the 3Rs — religion, race and royalty.

In a separate development, Dzulkhairi said the proposal to establish the Hang Tuah Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) had been submitted to Bukit Aman last year and was currently still under review by Bukit Aman’s Research and Development division.

He said follow-up action would be taken to ensure the proposal could be aligned with the administrative boundaries of the relevant local authorities.

“The proposed establishment of the district police headquarters is necessary due to the growing population within the administrative area of the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ).

“This need also takes into account the population density in the area, which covers parts of Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah and Jasin,” he said.
