Landslide Near Apartment in Bandar Damai Perdana, Residents Ordered to Evacuate

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of an apartment block in Bandar Damai Perdana, Cheras, were ordered to evacuate their homes tonight following a landslide near the building, believed to have been caused by an underground water leak.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the Operations Commander at the scene ordered residents near Block A of the apartment complex to evacuate immediately as a precautionary measure.

He said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9.03pm before a team of five firefighters and a fire engine from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.

Ashrul Riezal said the rescue team arrived eight minutes later and found that the incident involved a 4.57-metre-high slope, with the soil having slipped by about 0.91 metres.

He said water was still flowing at the site, but the rescue team had not detected any further ground movement so far.

“Monitoring of the ground conditions and water flow is being actively carried out to ensure safety at the scene,” he said in a statement on Tuesday night.

He said no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, and the Public Works Department had been notified for further action.
