Ayob Khan Appointed New Chairman of UTeM Board of Directors

MELAKA: Former Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has been appointed the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) for a three-year term.

The appointment took effect on Sept 16, 2026, following approval by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, with Ayob Khan succeeding Dato’ Husaini Omar, whose term has ended.

UTeM said in a statement that Ayob Khan’s extensive experience in leadership and senior management within one of the country’s key agencies is expected to strengthen the Board’s role in ensuring the university’s strategic direction continues to be driven sustainably.

“UTeM believes his extensive experience, coupled with his strong capabilities in high-level strategic management, will enable him to lead the UTeM Board of Directors in facing future challenges,” the statement said.

Ayob Khan, who holds a Master’s Degree in Information Technology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, has nearly 35 years of experience with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), during which he held several senior positions in the force.

He served as Johor Police Chief from 2020 to 2022 before continuing his service as Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

He was subsequently appointed Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before being named Deputy Inspector-General of Police in 2023.

He retired from the police force in July 2026 after nearly three and a half decades of service.

Meanwhile, UTeM also expressed its highest appreciation and gratitude to Husaini for his contributions, commitment and service throughout his tenure as Chairman of the university’s Board of Directors.

Ayob Khan’s appointment is expected to bring a new dimension to UTeM’s strategic leadership, particularly in strengthening governance, strategic networks and the university’s role in the development of technical education in the country.
