Anthony to Continue Official Duties in China Before Proceeding With Resignation Process

PUTRAJAYA: Transport Minister Anthony Loke will continue with his scheduled official engagements in China before returning to Malaysia to deal with matters related to his resignation process as Transport Minister.

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) said in a statement on Monday that Anthony will represent Malaysia at the 12th APEC Transportation Ministerial Meeting in Beijing.

The programme will also involve several bilateral meetings and the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

One of the MoUs covers transport cooperation between the Government of Malaysia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China, encompassing the land, rail, maritime, aviation and logistics sectors.

The other is an MoU on aviation safety cooperation between the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), covering areas such as airworthiness, certification of aviation organisations, personnel licensing, operational oversight, as well as mutual recognition of findings and certificates of compliance.

“MOT will continue to ensure that all ministry affairs and responsibilities are carried out as usual in a professional and orderly manner,” the statement said.

Last Saturday, Anthony offered to resign as Transport Minister following the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, which allows Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

Anthony said the decision was made following an emergency meeting of the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC), which lasted about three hours on Sept 19.

He said DAP respected the pardoning power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, but as a party, DAP had its own position and found the decision difficult to accept.
