Tuanku Muhriz Revokes Appointments of Negeri Sembilan EXCO Members With Immediate Effect
KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has revoked the appointments of the State Executive Council (EXCO) members with immediate effect.
According to a statement issued tonight by the Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali, the decision was made after it was found that all the EXCO members concerned had breached their oaths of office.
He said that under Article XXXVIII(5) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, a member of the State Executive Council holds office at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
The members had each taken their oath and signed a pledge of allegiance on Aug 7 before being appointed to the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council.
“They pledged allegiance to His Royal Highness and the Royal Institution, swore to protect and preserve the sovereignty of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, and recognised the authority vested in the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang Negeri Sembilan.
“They breached these oaths through their actions and statements on Sept 15. Accordingly, His Royal Highness has withdrawn his consent and revoked their appointments as members of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council with immediate effect.
“Each individual concerned has been informed of the revocation through an official royal letter,” he said in the statement.
Following the decision, Azizi said Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim must present a list of new candidates for the State Executive Council for Tuanku Muhriz’s consideration and consent in accordance with Article XXXVIII(2) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959.
“Tuanku Muhriz expects the Menteri Besar to ensure that the administration of Negeri Sembilan continues without any disruption or obstruction in accordance with the provisions of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, and that the interests of the people are safeguarded at all times,” he said.
The Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council members appointed in August were Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli (Rural Advancement and Regional Development); Datuk Mustapha Nagoor (Youth and Sports Development); and Datuk Zaifulbahri Idris (Education, Higher Education and Human Capital).
Also appointed were Siow Kong Choon (Local Government Development, Housing and Non-Islamic Affairs); Siti Nur Umaira Hasim (Women, Family and Community Development); Datuk Mohd Asna Amin (Industry, Technology, Innovation and Digital); and Datuk Mohd Razi Mohd Ali (Agriculture, Food Security and Cost of Living).
The other members were Suhaimizan Bizar (Health, Unity, Information, National Integration and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)); Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa (Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs); and Datuk Razali Abu Samah (Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage).
