One Killed, Six Seriously Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash

KOTA TINGGI: One person was killed while six others were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash at Kilometer 66.6 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway here on Saturday.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said the victim, who was a passenger in a Perodua Myvi, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) in Johor Bahru.

He said the 11.50am crash involved a Perodua Myvi driven by a 21-year-old man with four passengers, a Proton Exora carrying two people, and a Mazda CX-30 driven by a 30-year-old man.

“The crash is believed to have occurred when the Perodua Myvi overtook another vehicle before colliding with the Proton Exora travelling in the opposite direction.

“The Proton Exora was then hit from behind by the Mazda CX-30, but the Mazda driver was not injured,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Yusof said the driver and four passengers of the Perodua Myvi, as well as the two occupants of the Proton Exora, sustained serious injuries.

He said all the victims were taken to HSI, Kota Tinggi Hospital and Pasir Gudang Hospital for treatment before one of them was pronounced dead.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
