Woman Dies After Rafting Boat Carrying Her and Five Friends Capsizes

HULU SELANGOR: A woman died after the rafting boat she was in with five friends capsized in Sungai Pertak here on Saturday.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the 34-year-old victim was thrown from the boat while navigating the first rapid at about noon.

“According to the victim’s friends, the rafting boat carrying the victim and five others capsized, throwing them out of the boat at the first rapid.

“The victim was subsequently found trapped underwater, and her friends attempted to free her from the obstruction,” JBPM said in a statement on Saturday.

The department said it received an emergency call regarding the incident at 3.52pm, with firefighters from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station arriving at the scene eight minutes later.

“The fire and rescue team helped carry the victim for about one kilometre to a safe area near Kem Rimbayu before handing her over to the police.

“The victim was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel and was taken to the Forensic Unit at Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital for further action,” the statement said.

The department added that the operation, involving six personnel, ended at 6.30pm.
