Felda Issue: MACC Records Isa Samad’s Statement at Sungai Buloh Prison
KAJANG: The statement of former Felda Chairman Datuk Mohd Isa Abdul Samad was recorded over two days at Sungai Buloh Prison beginning last Thursday.
The statement was recorded to assist investigations into allegations of misappropriation, abuse of power and corruption involving investments and asset acquisitions by the management of Felda and Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) between 2010 and 2020, which allegedly resulted in losses due to assets being purchased above their actual valuation.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the recording of Mohd Isa’s statement would continue for another three to four days.
“His statement has already been recorded for two full days and is expected to be completed by Thursday,” he told reporters at the MACC Shooting Programme with the Media at Kajang Prison here on Saturday.
He also thanked the Malaysian Prisons Department for its cooperation in ensuring the smooth recording of the statement.
In a related development, Abd Halim said six investigation papers had been opened, including one that is currently under active investigation.
Among the matters being investigated are the acquisition of Dataran Aras Sdn Bhd, the takeover of Grand Borneo Hotel Sdn Bhd, the purchase of Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments in London and the establishment of Felda Wellness Corporation Sdn Bhd.
“The remaining cases involve the acquisition of Felda House and Grand Felda House, alleged irregularities in the development of the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project, and the purchase of the Park City Grand Plaza Hotel asset in Kensington, London, which is an existing investigation paper,” he said.
On Sept 2, Abd Halim was reported as saying that 12 individuals had been called to assist investigations into Felda-related cases.
Following this, the MACC opened seven investigation papers under a large-scale special operation known as Op Fella.
