KAJANG: The Malaysian Prisons Department will issue a statement regarding the conditional pardon granted to Datuk Seri Najib Razak, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

It is understood that the media statement will provide further details on the matter.

“We (the Prisons Department) will issue a media statement on the matter this afternoon,” it said briefly.

Earlier, the media reported that Kajang Prison had become the focus of local and international media following the announcement today that Sultan Ibrahim, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, had granted Najib a conditional pardon.

Earlier reports said the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department announced that Sultan Ibrahim had granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.

BHEUU said in a statement that the decision was made at the 64th Pardons Board Meeting for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara today.

Najib, 73, has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022.
