Pardons Board Decision Does Not Affect Government’s Principles on Corruption – PM

PUTRAJAYA: The Pardons Board’s decision regarding Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s sentence does not affect the government’s principle of continuing to take firm action against all cases of corruption and abuse of power.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government remains committed to the rule of law, which does not mean the country should tolerate corruption or abuse of power.

He said all corruption cases, including ongoing cases involving the former prime minister, must continue to be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“But ultimately, the Constitution provides for the absolute authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and I hope we can accept that.

“Apart from that, I want to stress that our commitment to the rule of law and our decision to take action against all cases of corruption remain unchanged. This does not mean that the country should submit to acts of plunder and corruption,” he said.

He said this when met after performing Friday prayers at Surau Nur Perdana, Precinct 10, here today.
