PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the price of grade A, B and C chicken eggs will be reduced by 3 cents per egg across the country from today.

According to Bernama, this means that the retail price of grade A, B and C eggs is now 42 cents, 40 cents and 38 cents per egg.

“The provision of subsidies for people’s food needs of 10 cents per chicken egg involves an expenditure of RM100 million, while in 2023 the subsidy allocation for chicken eggs amounts to RM927 million,” he said in a statement.

Anwar said that egg prices in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan will be adjusted according to the gazetted section and zone.

He said the move is in line with current developments which show that there has been a decrease in the input cost of chicken egg production, especially the basic ingredients for chicken feed.

“I would like to emphasize that the problems or issues related to the cost of living of the people will continue to be dealt with by the government in a more proactive and effective manner while making the best efforts in sustaining the negative impact on the people’s daily lives,” he said.

Regarding diesel smuggling, Anwar said the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) mobilized Ops Tiris which has been ongoing since March 1, 2023, aimed at combating the problem of subsidized diesel diversion that benefits unqualified parties.

Until December 31, 2023, a total of 6.44 million liters of diesel estimated to amount to RM14.12 million have been confiscated.
