Nepal Floods: Death Toll Reaches 623, Over 1,100 Missing

ISTANBUL: The death toll from the devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal has reached 623 as of Saturday, as search and rescue teams continue to recover bodies swept away by strong river currents, reported Anadolu Agency.

Nepal police confirmed that they have recovered 616 bodies, including 233 in Chitwan and 158 in East Nawalparasi, making them among the worst-hit areas by the disaster.

The death toll includes dozens of victims found in Gorkha, Dhading and Nuwakot following the overflow of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, major rivers originating from the Himalayan range.

Bodies have been found as far as the border areas with India. At least 638 people are reported missing in Nepal’s territory, including 511 foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, seven people have died and 554 remain missing in China, according to Xinhua News Agency.

Nepalese authorities reported that 2,301 people have been rescued or treated for injuries, with most survivors located in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.

Police data shows 27 officers are still uncontactable while 4,811 personnel have been deployed to affected areas to handle recovery efforts.
