23 Luxury Vehicles Seized in Three-Day JPJ Operation in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Kuala Lumpur has seized 23 luxury and high-performance vehicles during a three-day Ops Khas LUXURY enforcement operation conducted from Aug 25 to 27.
JPJ Kuala Lumpur director Hamidi Adam said the operation targeted vehicles and drivers found violating the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), regardless of the value, brand or status of the vehicles involved.
A total of 73 offence notices were issued during the three-day operation, comprising 39 cases involving expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), 30 cases for lack of valid insurance coverage, three cases involving drivers without a Competent Driving Licence (CDL) and one case involving the display of another vehicle’s registration number.
Among the vehicles seized was a Honda Civic Type R driven by a Rohingya national. The vehicle was detected travelling in a convoy with several other vehicles near the SPE Toll Plaza before being stopped for inspection.
Checks found that the driver did not possess a valid driving licence, prompting JPJ Kuala Lumpur to seize the vehicle under the relevant provisions of the law.
Other vehicles seized included a Ferrari F8, Porsche Macan, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo and Toyota Alphard, along with several other luxury and high-performance vehicles.
The 23 vehicles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Combined with the 73 offence notices issued, the operation recorded a total of 96 enforcement notices over the three-day period.
179 Vehicles Seized Throughout 2026
JPJ Kuala Lumpur said that from the beginning of 2026 until Aug 28, a total of 179 vehicles had been seized under Ops Khas LUXURY.
During the same period, 393 P22 notices were issued, involving 209 cases of expired LKM, 158 cases of vehicles without valid insurance coverage, 21 cases involving drivers without a CDL and five cases involving other offences.
In addition, 179 seizure notices were issued under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, bringing the total number of notices issued under the operation this year to 572.
Hamidi stressed that the value, brand, price or status of a vehicle would never exempt its owner or user from enforcement action.
“Whether a vehicle is worth tens of thousands or millions of ringgit, the law applies equally,” he said.
He urged owners of luxury and high-performance vehicles to ensure that their LKM remained valid, insurance coverage was in force and the driver held a valid driving licence before using the vehicle on public roads.
JPJ Kuala Lumpur, he added, would continue to intensify targeted enforcement operations and take firm action, including vehicle seizures, whenever legal requirements were not met.
“Comply with the regulations and protect lives. Drive carefully, arrive safely,” Hamidi said.
