Syed Azman Named National Maulidur Rasul Figure 2026

SERDANG: Founder and Group Managing Director of Weststar Group, Tan Sri Dr. Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim was conferred the 2026 Maulidur Rasul Personality Award (1448/2026 Premier Personality Category) at the 1448/2026 National Maulidur Rasul Celebration today.

The award was presented to Syed Azman, 66, by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the celebration held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Serdang.

Among his contributions in the aviation industry is Weststar’s achievement in providing more than 40 helicopters for oil and gas operations, leading local and international media to refer to Syed Azman as the ‘Helicopter King of Malaysia’.

The title reflects his dominance in the energy support aviation sector as well as Weststar’s position as a leading provider in the Asia Pacific region.

Although often associated with wealth and corporate influence, he maintains an image as a humble leader and is cautious in giving media statements, consistent with his military background which emphasises confidentiality and strategic affairs.

Syed Azman, who is the owner of helicopter service company, Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd (WAS), focuses on the oil and gas (O&G) sector.

Among the companies that use his services are Petronas Carigali, Shell and Tullow Oil.

In addition, he is actively involved in various welfare initiatives and his contributions include community infrastructure development, disaster relief, support for orphanages and local welfare programmes.

Many of these initiatives are carried out quietly without publicity, in line with his approach of preferring to work behind the scenes.

Syed Azman also supports the construction and maintenance of prayer halls and mosques in several areas, particularly in Kedah and the Klang Valley as part of his commitment to Islamic community development.
