Five More Bomb Explosions Rock Southern Thailand
NARATHIWAT (THAILAND): A series of bomb attacks in southern Thailand continued for a second day when five explosions rocked three districts in Narathiwat and Pattani within a period of approximately 13 hours, yesterday.
Spokesperson for the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 (ISOC 4) said, all the explosions occurred between 8.30 am and 9.30 pm, but no deaths or injuries were reported.
He said, the first explosion occurred at 8.30 am on a road near a mosque in Bang Pu Sub-district, Yaring District, Pattani.
“Two more bomb explosions occurred in Riko Sub-district and Sungai Padi Sub-district in Sungai Padi District, Narathiwat, between 9.50 and 9.55 am.
“Within that same period, patrol teams reported an explosion on the railway track in Maruebo Tok Sub-district, Rangae District, Narathiwat,” he told Utusan Malaysia today.
The spokesperson said, the latest attack at approximately 9.10 pm occurred when a group of individuals believed to be members of a separatist group attacked and blew up the garage of the Pho Ming Sub-district Municipal Office in Panare District, Pattani.
He said, in the incident, more than 10 men armed with automatic weapons were believed to have exploded and set fire to the second floor of the office building as well as government vehicles before fleeing.
“The incident resulted in three government vehicles being damaged,” he said.
Utusan Malaysia yesterday reported that southern Thailand was once again in turmoil when 51 violent incidents occurred simultaneously involving Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani within a period of nearly two hours, last night.
The attacks, believed to have been masterminded by separatist groups, included bombings, burning of offices and government vehicles, explosions of telecommunications towers, robberies, explosions at convenience stores and tyre burning.
The Spokesperson for the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 (ISOC 4) said that until midnight, a total of 22 incidents were recorded in Narathiwat, 18 in Yala and 11 in Pattani.
