8 Areas Record Unhealthy API Readings This Morning

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of eight areas recorded Air Pollution Index (API) readings at unhealthy levels, as of 8.15 am, today.

Based on the Malaysian Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) portal, four of them involved areas in Sarawak with the highest reading of 198 recorded in Serian, followed by Kuching (185), Sri Aman (178), Samarahan (177) and Sarikei (128).

In addition, several areas in other states also recorded unhealthy API readings, namely Johan Setia, Selangor, with a reading of 155, Sungai Petani, Kedah (127) and Taiping, Perak (116).

Meanwhile, the same data also showed that 60 areas nationwide recorded moderate API readings, covering several states including Sarawak, Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Melaka, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perlis, Federal Territory of Labuan, Johor, Sabah, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

In Selangor, among the affected areas are Shah Alam with an API reading of 96, as well as Petaling Jaya (81).

In Melaka, the Bukit Rambai area, which was previously in the unhealthy API category, showed a positive decline with a reading of 93, while Putrajaya this morning recorded a reading of 89 and Kuala Lumpur, 87.

In Johor, several areas also recorded moderate API readings, namely Tangkak, 84, while Batu Pahat and Pasir Gudang each showed readings at 83.

In Perlis, the only area in the moderate API category is Kangar with a reading of 84, while in Kelantan, only Tanah Merah is in the same category with a reading of 65.

API readings of 0 to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy), while API readings exceeding 300 are categorised as hazardous.

API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.

The public can obtain the latest information on current air quality through the Department of Environment’s official channels via the link eqms.doe.gov.my or MyJAS EQMS on Google Play and the App Store.
