Tengku Mahkota Pahang Makes History As First Royal To Complete RMAF Basic Helicopter Flying Course

ALOR SETAR: Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, has made history as the first royal to undergo and complete the Basic Helicopter Flying Course at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) College (KTU), here.

His Highness was among 40 participants who completed the training and received the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Flying Wings, which were conferred by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who is also the Colonel-in-Chief of the RMAF, at the 2026 Flying Wings Presentation Parade Ceremony at the KTU Parade Ground today.

Besides Tengku Mahkota Pahang, the wings were also conferred to 39 trainees of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), consisting of 37 young pilots and two weapon-sensor officers from all three branches of the ATM.

The ceremony involved trainees from four flying courses namely the Basic Helicopter Flying Course Series 67(A)/26, Basic Helicopter Flying Course Series 67/25, Basic Flying Course Series 87/25 as well as the Basic Weapon-Sensor Officer Course Series 01/25.

Tengku Mahkota Pahang followed the Basic Helicopter Flying Course Series 67(A)/26 from June 2 to July 31 last using the EC120B Colibri helicopter and successfully completed and passed with excellence in several flying assessments including Basic Handling Test (BHT), Instrument Flying Test (IFT), Final Navigation Test (FNT) and Final Handling Test (FHT).

During the ceremony, six awards were also presented to the best trainees based on achievements in flying, academic, discipline and leadership aspects.

Air Force Chief, General Tan Sri Muhamad Norazlan Aris, said the success of Tengku Mahkota Pahang and the other trainees in completing the training is the result of diligence, fighting spirit, mental resilience and high discipline instilled throughout the training.

He said behind every success, there are parents and family members who never stopped praying, besides providing encouragement and support throughout the graduates’ training.

“The conferment of the Flying Wings is not the end of a journey. Instead, it is the beginning of a far greater trust and responsibility.

“From today onwards, the wings pinned on your chest carry with them the dignity, hope and trust of the service and the nation,” he said in his speech at the ceremony.

Muhamad Norazlan said every wearer of the wings is required to always uphold discipline, integrity, courage and loyalty in carrying out their trust and defending the sovereignty of the nation’s airspace.

He said with the knowledge, capability and character instilled throughout the training, all of them are confident to be able to carry out every responsibility entrusted to them with full dedication for the sake of religion, race and nation.
