Two Die: Tanker Lorry Driver Remanded

KUANTAN: The tanker lorry driver involved in an accident that resulted in the death of two individuals at Kilometer 9, Jalan Temerloh-Triang, near Kampung Lebak yesterday, has been remanded for four days.

Temerloh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasyim Bahron said, the 37-year-old man was remanded until next Tuesday to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The results of a urine screening test conducted on the driver found that the man was negative for drugs,” he said in a statement today.

In the incident at around 4 pm, two individuals believed to be a mother and child perished after their car was crushed by the tanker lorry involved, which was carrying 32,000 litres of fuel.

Confirmation of the identity of both victims will be conducted through DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) comparison with family members with the assistance of the Chemistry Department.

Previously, Mohd Nasyim was reported as saying that initial investigations found that the tanker lorry, which was travelling from Seremban, Negeri Sembilan heading to Temerloh, was believed to have lost control and entered the opposite lane before crushing the car, after which both vehicles caught fire.
