The role of fathers among ATM personnel needs to continue to be empowered – Dr Wan Azizah

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel need to continue to be given support in carrying out their role as fathers, especially in balancing the demands of defending the country with responsibilities towards the family, said the wife of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

She, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, said that support is important given that the demands of ATM duties sometimes require them to be away from their children and families for certain periods.

Dr Wan Azizah said, initiatives such as the National Family Love Policy (DKKN) can help empower the role of fathers, besides increasing awareness regarding their importance as one of the main pillars in the family institution.

“We also want fathers (to be given) support to strengthen, reinforce and realise that the role of a father is important as a leader in the family,” she told reporters after officiating the 2026 Father’s Day Celebration Programme at the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Level Together with ATM Personnel, here, today.

The programme themed “As Great as a Father’s LOVE” organised by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and ATM gathered approximately 500 guests and participants consisting of fathers, spouses and children of ATM personnel as well as representatives of government agencies.

Its organisation aims to appreciate the role and sacrifices of fathers, especially ATM personnel who sometimes have to be away from their families in carrying out the responsibility of defending the nation’s sovereignty.

Among LPPKN’s efforts in strengthening support for fathers is the Fatherhood Module which focuses on fathering skills as well as the MEN Empowerment Network.
