SHAH ALAM: The state government aims to build 200,000 affordable housing units under the Selangorku Harapan and Idaman Housing Policy by 2030.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that the target is among the main agendas of the state government to ensure that more people have the opportunity to own their own homes.

He said that to date, 64,188 housing units have been completed, while another 69,014 units are currently under construction.

“The remaining tens of thousands are expected to be completed or have construction commenced by 2030,” he said during the presentation of the Selangor Plan 2 (RS-2) at the Selangor State Assembly today.

According to him, the state government also gives attention to those who are still unable to afford to buy homes through the provision of the Smart Rental Scheme.

He explained that the number of rental units under that scheme will be increased to 3,000 units by 2030.

“A total of 30 percent of the monthly rental payment will be saved by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).

“This rental payment will be returned to the tenant to be used as a down payment for the house should they be ready to purchase the said house,” he said.
