KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar informed that her decision to relinquish the position of PKR Deputy President was made after lengthy consideration to enable her to take a new step in pursuing further studies based on service and devotion without necessarily being tied to the political world.

However, the former Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament said that the decision does not change her stance to remain a PKR member and to continue giving support to the party’s struggle towards a better Malaysia under the leadership of the President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, together with the leadership team and grassroots.

“I record my highest appreciation to all KEADILAN (PKR) members, leaders at every level, comrades in struggle and every individual who has been with me in this struggle.

“Thank you for the trust, advice, prayers and sacrifices that have never ceased.

“God willing, we will meet at the PKR National Congress on 14 and 15 August,” she said in a media statement on Facebook today.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah also expressed her appreciation to the President and the party leadership for acknowledging her decision to relinquish her position as PKR Deputy President.

“Alhamdulillah, I express my full appreciation to Datuk Seri President and the party leadership for acknowledging my decision to relinquish my position as PKR Deputy President.

“I am confident that Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as Deputy President and Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Election Director will carry out this trust with full wisdom, prudence and diligence in shouldering the people’s hopes.

“I pray that all their affairs be made easy in carrying this responsibility,” she said.

Earlier, the PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) decided to grant temporary leave to Nurul Izzah, starting after the 2026 National Congress, in addition to appointing Saifuddin Nasution to carry out the duties of Deputy President on a temporary basis.

PKR Communications Director, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, said that the decision was made after the MPP examined Nurul Izzah’s application to resign from the position and heard her views as well as those of the party leadership.

He said that after hearing the views of Nurul Izzah and the leadership, the MPP agreed to grant temporary leave to Nurul Izzah starting after the 2026 National Congress until a date to be announced.
