KLANG: A mistake in engaging the gear proved costly for a woman when the car she was driving rammed into a cake shop, causing her to sustain a head injury in an incident at Leboh Bangau, Taman Berkeley here yesterday.
In the incident at approximately 3.30 pm, a female shop assistant in her 30s also sustained minor injuries after being hit by the vehicle.
The incident also went viral on social media through several pictures.
Klang Utara District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said that preliminary investigations found that the driver had previously parked her car in a parking space in front of the premises to buy goods.
“After finishing buying goods and getting back into the car, the woman is believed to have mistakenly engaged the forward gear and then pressed the accelerator pedal.
“As a result, the car lurched forward and rammed into the cake shop before hitting the shop assistant inside the premises,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the shop worker and the car driver have each received further treatment at separate private hospitals.
“The driver is expected to undergo surgery due to a slight tear on her head,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for the offence of driving without due care and attention.
