Selangor to Verify Claim That an Assemblyman Has Lost Eligibility

KUALA PILAH: The Selangor government is reviewing a claim regarding a State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) member who is said to have lost his eligibility.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, said the state has received initial information on the matter and will seek the legal adviser’s opinion before deciding on further action, including whether a by-election needs to be called.

He said the matter is expected to be raised during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting scheduled for 3 October.

“We have received some information about it. I am reviewing it with the legal adviser and it is likely that the Speaker will inform the House about the matter in the sitting this Monday (3 October).

“We need to verify the claim, or the claim regarding the loss or disqualification of a State Assembly member in Selangor,” he said.

He said this when met after the Kuala Pilah Berselawat and Munajat Perdana Negeri Sembilan programme at Dataran Melang last night.

Amirudin said if the review finds that there is a legal necessity to hold a by-election, the matter will be notified to the Election Commission (SPR).

He however did not disclose the identity of the Assemblyman in question or elaborate on the nature of the claim.
