ARLINGTON, TEXAS: Spain have confirmed their place in the 2026 World Cup final after defeating France 2-0 in a semi-final clash at Dallas Stadium here earlier.

La Roja delivered a mature and disciplined performance to end France’s dream of making a third consecutive appearance in the final.

Luis de la Fuente’s side opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Mikel Oyarzabal, who calmly converted a penalty after Lamine Yamal was brought down inside the box.

That goal boosted Spain’s confidence as they continued to control the tempo of the game and successfully stifled France’s attempts to create dangerous chances.

Didier Deschamps’ squad tried to respond through Kylian Mbappe’s agility and several quick movements from the flanks, but Spain’s defensive resilience ensured they failed to find an equaliser.

Spain doubled their lead in the 58th minute when Pedro Porro finished off a well-crafted move from Dani Olmo to put his side comfortably ahead.

La Roja almost added a third goal minutes later through Yamal, but the young sensation’s goal was ruled out for offside.

France continued to try to find a way back into the match by making several changes in attack, but failed to break down the opposition’s well-organised defence throughout the 90 minutes.

Mbappe also had several of the best chances for Les Bleus, but failed to beat goalkeeper Unai Simon, who was outstanding in keeping Spain’s goal intact.

The victory takes Spain back to the World Cup final for the first time since becoming world champions in 2010, putting them just one step away from lifting the prestigious trophy for the second time in the nation’s history.

Spain now await the winner of the other semi-final between England and Argentina to determine their opponents in the 2026 World Cup final.
