Malaysian Oil Cheaper Than Saudi Arabia, Qatar – PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that fuel prices in Malaysia are currently still lower compared to major oil-producing countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

He said fuel price comparisons must be made based on the current economic situation and not merely by referring to conditions when world oil prices were at lower levels.

According to him, the price of RON95 in Malaysia, set at RM1.99 per litre, remains competitive compared to fuel prices in several oil-producing countries.

“Malaysia’s oil price is lower than Qatar and Saudi Arabia. That is the first fact that must be remembered.

“The RON95 price is at RM1.99, while Saudi Arabia’s oil price is more than RM2.40. In fact, the United Arab Emirates also raised its fuel prices two months ago,” he said.

He said this in response to a supplementary question from Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu), who compared fuel prices during the previous administration.

Anwar said changes in world oil prices are influenced by global economic and geopolitical conditions, including the prolonged crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.

He said the government continues to maintain subsidies and assistance to the people to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs and cost of living pressures.
