Melaka DAP Expected To Announce Exit From State Government, Resign Exco Positions Today
MELAKA: Melaka DAP is understood to be making a major decision by announcing its withdrawal from the state government this afternoon and resigning from all positions held in the BN-led administration.
Citing a Malaysiakini report, the move is taken as a protest against the proposed constitutional amendment to introduce Appointed State Legislative Assembly Members.
According to the report, DAP representatives are understood to be making the announcement at the Melaka State Legislative Assembly after the state government proceeded with the constitutional amendment this afternoon.
“DAP will resign from all government positions currently held, including one state executive councillor, two deputy executive councillors, a deputy speaker, as well as all appointed village heads and local council members under the state administration.
“Those resigning from executive positions are State Exco Allex Seah; Deputy Exco Low Chee Leong and Leng Chau Yen; and Deputy Speaker Kerk Chee Yee,” citing the report.
According to the report obtained from sources, Melaka DAP Chairman Khoo Poay Tiong had briefed the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) on the decision on Monday night and received the CEC’s endorsement.
On July 11, Seah said via a Facebook post that DAP Melaka opposed the introduction of Appointed State Assembly Members.
He pledged to resign as Melaka Exco immediately if the State Assembly sitting on Tuesday still passed the Appointed State Assembly Members constitutional amendment with a two-thirds majority.
