“Jiwa Merdeka” as the theme of the 2024 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations

PUTRAJAYA: The theme for this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations is “Malaysia MADANI: Jiwa Merdeka,” according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

As stated by him, the theme was chosen because it embodies the overall unification of a dynamic and developing country with a diversified, cohesive, and energetic populace.

“Malaysia MADANI, with its six primary fundamental principles, is the foundation for the development and prosperity of the nation.

He declared the theme and logo of the 2024 HKHM celebrations here today, saying that Jiwa Merdeka “expresses the freedom of the people from any negative elements in interpreting the patriotic spirit through the aspects of thinking, social and economic integration and then forming a strong, harmonious and progressive unity of the people.”

Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching, Secretary-General of the Communications Ministry Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin were also in present. 

Fahmi added that the Cabinet has decided to use the HKHM logo from the previous year for the festivities this year.

Fahmi also disclosed other events on the HKHM schedule, such as the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Convoy, which would transport national sentiments and provide Malaysian flags at each of their stops; the interministerial Perkampungan MADANI, Jiwa Merdeka Programme, the Langkah Jiwa Merdeka Bersama Membangun Malaysia MADANI Programme, and the Pentarama Live Jam.

Furthermore, according to Fahmi, the “One House One Jalur Gemilang Initiative” will keep promoting the Jalur Gemilang flying activity, which is said to be suitable for instilling a sense of patriotism in oneself and in one’s family.

He also urged all Malaysians to be proud of this and use Jalur Gemilang to adorn their homes.

He declared, “Let us fly the Jalur Gemilang in its entirety, intact, undamaged, and unfading, for the flag is a reflection of ourselves as law-abiding citizens.”
