PM Tarique Arrives in KL on First Official Foreign Visit to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night on his first official foreign visit since assuming office, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister, his spouse Dr Zubaida Rahman, and other members of the delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 8:45 pm local time.

Upon his arrival, Malaysian Minister of Religious Affairs Zulkifli bin Hasan welcomed the Prime Minister at the VVIP terminal of Bunga Raya Complex. A child also presented a bouquet to Zubaida Rahman during the reception ceremony.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md Monjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury and Deputy High Commissioner Mosammat Shahanara Monika were also present at the airport.

From the airport, Prime Minister Tarique proceeded to the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur in an official motorcade.

Earlier, the special flight carrying the Prime Minister and his entourage departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 3:00 pm Bangladesh time.

A 25-member delegation is accompanying the Prime Minister on his maiden overseas tour. The delegation includes Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Labour and Employment Minister Arifur Rahman Chowdhury, along with cabinet members, advisers, senior government officials and the Prime Minister’s personal staff.

The visit is being viewed as a significant diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s economic partnership with Malaysia, attracting foreign investment and enhancing regional connectivity.

By choosing Malaysia as the destination of his first official foreign trip, Prime Minister Tarique is expected to place emphasis on expanding labour market opportunities, deepening economic ties and broadening strategic cooperation between the two countries.
