JOHOR BAHRU: A man was killed while another suffered serious injuries after being attacked by buffaloes during separate sacrificial ritual incidents in Johor on Thursday.
Seri Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the first incident occurred at around 10am in Kampung Tenang, Ulu Tiram, when a 45-year-old local man was gored by a buffalo while assisting with korban activities.
The victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead at approximately 11pm the same day.
According to police, a post-mortem examination revealed that the victim died due to vascular injuries to his left leg. The case has been classified as sudden death.
In a separate incident later that afternoon, another 45-year-old local man suffered a fractured rib after a buffalo suddenly became aggressive and attacked him in Batu 19, Kampung Sungai Tiram.
The incident, which occurred around 2pm, later went viral on social media.
The injured man is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Sultan Ismail.
Police said both cases have been referred to the Johor State Veterinary Department for further action and investigation.
Authorities also urged the public not to spread unverified information or speculation regarding the incidents.
