KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has reaffirmed that the welfare of armed forces personnel remains a core pillar of national defence policy, alongside military modernisation and operational readiness.

The Ministry of Defence said the well-being of Malaysian Armed Forces personnel is a moral responsibility of the government, given their sacrifices in safeguarding national sovereignty and security.

Defence officials emphasised that military readiness depends not only on physical and tactical training, but also on the welfare and stability of personnel and their families.

The statement was made during the launch of the PROWIRA – Ready to Work (RTW) Graduates and Education Initiative 2026, organised by Yayasan LTAT.

The programme focuses on education and human capital development for military families through initiatives such as e-Perkasa SPM, Sentuhan Elit SPM, the Family Skills Programme (K2T), STEM programmes, and the MADANI Education Savings Scheme.

A key highlight of the initiative is the PROWIRA Ready to Work (RTW) programme, which provides 300 children of armed forces personnel, Ministry of Defence staff and veterans with 12-month job placements in participating companies.

The programme involves an allocation of RM7.2 million, with participants receiving a monthly allowance of RM2,000 while gaining real-world work experience, skills training and soft skills development to prepare them for the job market.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at strengthening career pathways and improving long-term economic resilience for military families.

The e-Perkasa SPM and Sentuhan Elit SPM programmes have also shown encouraging results, with 175 children of armed forces personnel achieving 5As and above in the SPM examination.

In addition, four schools under the ministry recorded improvements in overall academic performance, reflecting positive outcomes from ongoing education support initiatives.

The ministry expressed appreciation to industry partners, companies and educational institutions for their collaboration in strengthening welfare programmes for armed forces personnel and their families.
