MOSCOW: Sultan Ibrahim has extended an official invitation to Vladimir Putin to visit Malaysia in 2027, marking a significant diplomatic gesture aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to reports from Sputnik/RIA Novosti, the invitation was made during a meeting between the two leaders in Moscow on Saturday. His Majesty also expressed gratitude for the warm reception received during his official visit.

The Russian President welcomed the invitation and highlighted the steady development of Russia–Malaysia relations, noting that the two countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.

“Our relations between our countries are developing well,” Putin said, adding that both sides continue to cooperate actively in international platforms, including the United Nations and ASEAN.

During the meeting, economic cooperation and trade were also discussed. Putin acknowledged a slight decline in bilateral trade but expressed confidence that both countries have the potential to overcome current challenges and further expand economic ties.

Trade and investment relations between Russia and Malaysia, he said, continue to show strong foundations with opportunities for future growth in multiple sectors.

President Putin also thanked the Malaysian king for his presence in Moscow and expressed optimism about continued high-level engagement between the two nations.

“I hope relations between our states will develop as steadily as they have so far,” the Russian leader added.

The visit and mutual invitations are seen as part of broader efforts to enhance diplomatic, economic, and international cooperation between Malaysia and Russia in the coming years.
