Top MAGA figures turn against Trump over the war with Iran

WASHINGTON: Xinhua reported that more powerful people in MAGA are speaking out against US President Donald Trump over the Iran war, calling it a break with his campaign promises.
The “Make America Great Again” (Maga) movement, which is made up of Trump’s biggest followers, is clearly and unequally split over his war with Iran, with more well-known figures speaking out against the conflict.

Well-known media partners are splitting up, which is causing public and internal fights.

A big name in conservative circles, Tucker Carlson, recently said that he feels awful about voting for Trump because of his choice to go to war with Iran. I’m sorry I lied to people. “It wasn’t meant to be that way,” the former Trump backer and Maga icon said on April 20.

There are millions of people who follow Carlson on Maga. He has also said that the war against Iran is the fault of US partner Israel and does nothing to make the US safer.

Maga influencer Candace Owens and Megyn Kelly have both spoken out against Trump over the war. Owens also said that the Trump government was corrupt.

She says Trump has lied to his supporters by breaking “every single one” of his words.
Some experts say that more and more Maga leaders think the president has broken campaign vows that made them vote for Trump in 2024. Trump has a big problem with some well-known people who backed him in 2024 but now think he broke the promises he made during the campaign. “He promised to end wars in other countries, but he has bombed many,” Darrell West, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, told Xinhua.

Trump has called people in the media who are against him “losers.”

An ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll released Friday (May 1) found that a lot of Republicans back military action in Iran. This is despite the fact that many prominent media figures have spoken out against the war as an “America last” policy.

On the other hand, 61% of Americans think it was a mistake. With the midterms coming up in November, more people think that the Maga split could hurt the Republicans.

Two big wars were started between the US and Israel against Iran on February 28. The Trump administration officially told Congress about the military move on March 2. This meant that the 60-day legal deadline would end on May 1. — Xinhua and Bernama
