KUALA LUMPUR: Islamic economics needs to be in line with Maqasid Shariah and should not be tied to legal thinking alone.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his speech when officiating the Global Forum of Islamic Economics and Finance (GFIEF) 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) on Tuesday said, it should also be extended to new industry challenges including food security, the digital sector, intelligence artificial intelligence (AI) and the principle of justice.

According to Astro Awani, the forum organized by the Ministry of Finance and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) was held for 2 days starting today to discuss and advance Islamic economics and finance, especially among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Themed ‘Shaping a Resilient Global Islamic Economy Through Values-based Reforms’, GFIEF brings together policy makers, business leaders and financial service providers from around the world.

Also present were Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and BNM governor, Datuk Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour.
